Radon Mitigation and Testing Services for Schools, Large Buildings, Multi-Family Homes, and HUDAs an industry leader in commercial radon testing and radon mitigation we have seen many types of buildings with dangerous levels of radon gas. Lifetime Commercial Radon & Vapor Mitigation has been in business for over 22 years proudly serving business owners, landlords, environmental companies, and school districts. Contrary to popular belief, radon gas is not only an issue in residential homes. The properties of radon gas allow it to enter and become trapped in any structure without proper ventilation. As the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers it is vital to have your property tested for radon gas and mitigated if necessary.
What is Radon?Radon is a naturally formed radioactive gas that spawns from the decay of uranium in the soil. As radon rises from the soil it dissipates into the air. The outdoor air levels of radon gas are on average around 0.4pCi/L and that level is generally considered safe for humans. However, when radon gas cannot dissipate into the air and becomes trapped under a structure such as a home, a school, or an office building it will begin to seep in any way it can.
Once inside of a structure with nowhere to dissipate, radon gas can begin to build up to unsafe levels. The EPA recommends that any home or building with radon levels at or above 4.0pCi/L be mitigated of the radon gas inside. The decay chain of radon gas is where it becomes dangerous to humans. As it decays inside of a structure it produces radon daughters which can attach to dust, water vapor and smoke in the air. When inhaled, these radioactive particles can cause damage to the lining of the lungs and ultimately cause lung cancer.

Radon gas cannot be detected by any of our senses so you might not know that there is a problem until it’s too late. Properly testing for radon is the only way to know if your building has this issue. Fortunately, testing for radon is a fairly simple process and affordable too! Radon Testing for Commercial Buildings
Radon testing in schools, office buildings, and larger structures is an affordable and painless process as mentioned previously on this page. There are multiple options for radon testing in commercial buildings depending on your needs. Listed below are the most common options for radon testing in large structures:
Charcoal Radon Testing: Charcoal testing kits are the most common form of radon tests available. This type of radon testing is most commonly used for initial testing because of how affordable it is. Charcoal test kits allow us to test in multiple rooms/areas of a building and are small enough to not get in the way of any work being done inside. Once the charcoal has been exposed to the air in the structure for a predetermined amount of time, the kits are sent back to the lab to be analyzed. Results from charcoal testing can usually be had within 7-10 days after being sent in. For commercial buildings, we will determine how many kits need to be used in accordance with commercial testing protocols and will place them for you in the proper manner. The shipping and lab costs are all included with the test kits purchased from us.
Digital Radon Testing: Lifetime Radon uses the AirThings Corentium Pro digital testing monitor which is calibrated yearly for accuracy. We have access to over 50 of these monitors to provide the most accurate and timely radon testing results around. Digital testing is more expensive than charcoal testing, but it is the most accurate way to test for radon available. Digital radon testing results are also instantaneous once the test period is complete, so there are no wait times for lab analysis. These types of tests are typically used in time sensitive situations, or for retesting a structure that had inconclusive results from other testing methods.
Long Term Radon Testing: Long term radon testing allows for structures to be analyzed for a time period of 90 days to a full year. This can be helpful to get a better idea of the radon levels throughout the year. Radon levels can fluctuate throughout the year because of changing conditions such as being more closed in the winter time, and ventilated more in the summer. Heating and cooling systems can also cause radon levels to fluctuate throughout the year, so it can be valuable to do a long term test for a better average. This type of radon testing is typically used after a structure has been tested once before from one of the aforementioned methods and produced borderline results.

Commercial Radon Mitigation
You may have seen radon mitigation systems before in residential properties as it has become commonplace to install them during real estate transactions. A radon mitigation system is basically a venting system that works with negative pressure to draw the rising radon gas from the soil out before it even has a chance to enter the structure. In commercial buildings such as schools, offices, factories, apartments and other large structures, the process is very similar. Radon mitigation systems for large buildings typically require more robust materials and stronger radon fans to properly alleviate the elevated levels present, but the end product can look aesthetically similar to a typical home installation. In our 22 years of business, there hasn’t been a building that we have run into that could not be mitigated. Lifetime Radon has a streamlined estimation and quoting process to make it easy to discern the pricing and scope of each project stress free! Lifetime Radon also has one of the most experienced and meticulous commercial radon teams in the country, so you can be sure that the end product will be top notch. There’s no reason to wait, give us a call now and we will get you started towards a healthier work environment!
